Nuclear Nationalism!
The recent withdrawal of support by the Left Parties to the ruling U.P.A. at the Centre has raised serious after discussions in the Country, as to the desirability of the Nuclear Deal entered with the U.S.A. It is a fact both the Left and the Right do not oppose the Nuclear Power per se. The B.J.P. leader of the N.D.A. wing opposes that the Agreement would have its impact on the Country's strategic nuclear programme and the problem of separation of civil and nuclear programme. The Left cautioned the Government not to accept nuclear cooperation with the U.S.A. on terms that compromises its independent foreign policy and sovereign right for self-reliant nuclear programme. Besides, the provisions of the Hyde Act contain provisions to coerce India to accept the strategic goals of the U.S.A.
