Sinking Values

The Government of India, people say, have taken a U- turn in permitting the visit of the U.S. Nimitz in Indian seas, few miles off the coast of Chennai. This has been done unusually since Independence. Some intellectuals ask, while New Zealand in the past had refused permission for nuclear-powered vessel of the U.S.A. to dock in its Port, how the Government in India has conceded to such a call?

While Reports speak of atleast 1200 major accidents, " which have resulted in the dozens of ship sinkings, hundreds of explosions and fires, costly repairs and loss of life,"it also adds, " 50 nuclear war heads and nine nuclear reactors are lying on the ocean floor".


The 'audacious' attempt of the Government against the protest of the Left and other Parties, has raised many eye-brows. The Administration owes open and forth right explanation in not addressing the serious concerns, particularly the 'Nuclear Question.' Friendship and promotion are not at the cost of the welfare of the population. Protocol, Secrecy, and defence matters, all technical terms and jusifications to hood-wink the masses.

On the other plane, permitting the Ship and its Personnel to disembark, celebrate their country's Independence by staying in Star Hotels and Posh Hotels in and around Chennai. Entertainment, 'Women and Wine' and other jubilations are arranged for them,with Police Protection as 'State Honour' after their 'hectic' schedule in 'aggressive war' in a foreign Nation-Iraq- against all the tenets of International Laws and decency, in the Land of Buddha and Mahatma, have eroded our credibility. As a Leader of the Non- alignment and torch -bearer of non-violence, we have sunk from moral values and lost ground.

Boating and Lakes in Puducherry ! Knowledgeable people in Puducherry know about the Lakes in the Region and their water source.About 86 Lakes found in the Union Territory. They are fed by river flows from Tamilnadu. Catchment areas are only in the neighbouring State. Traditionally inland fisherman occupation dependent on these Waterbodies and local back waters. Traffic and Pedestrian Rights It is an open secret that the traffic situation in Puducherry is chaotic.The National Data for road accidents place the Territory in higher risk category. Given it's demography and extent of territory the number of vehicles plying on the road is disproportionate and unmatching.
