Protest against Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister-Modi,s visit to Chennai on the invitation of Cho-Thuglak, yesterday evoked strong condemnation from secular and democratic forces in TamilNadu. In the Meeting, he said to have thundered that secularism in the Country has changed' color' with the times and" today it means hate Hindus." "Earlier it was said secularism was religious harmony. It changed color to get sympathy for minorities, then for appeasement of minorities and later for a Muslim vote bank.Today it means hate the Hindus votes."

While detailing the project of quick underlaying of 1400 K.M. pipe lines for bringing Narmada river for Gujarat, he also said, that "The pipe is so huge that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister with all his family members can travel through it in a car". Again he stated, while referring to inclusive growth in the country, a mass movement should be launched and added that to achieve development in that direction, 100 crore people of this country to be involved, as done by Mahatma Gandhi, during the freedom struggle.

Fighting terrorism is not taking law in one's hands. Nobody is above law, including the Chief Minister. while assuming office of the Chief Minister,he has been administered the oath of office and secrecy under the provisions of the Constitution. This solemnity should not disrespected.Further, the ideals of Secularism in the Preamble forms part and parcel of the Constitution and nobody shall be permitted to violate at will. 'Secularism' is not to be misinterpreted for vote- bank politics and for convenience. In case of doubts and conflicts of opinion, the Supreme Court of India should be approached. It alone has got the right of interpretation and not any individual. So, nobody can usurp the powers of the Apex Court for partisan ends and for deriving political mileage. His indication of mass movement and Gandhi is hollow and also do not hold water, since he has neither exhibited, patience nor tolerance in political life. Logically, he is also flawed that the 100 crore people he proposes to mobilize for development includes all sections of minorities. Doesn't it tantamount to wooing or appeasing? The freedom movement in the country was a co-ordinated effort of all sections of religions. It was not a solo affair. If terrorism is to be opposed, it should be equally applied.Their will be no discrimination of majority terrorism and minority terrorism.Violence in any form, in any hue and from any quarter is to be condemned and dealt with appropriately by Law.

The sarcasm directed against the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, who has been an ardent believer and practitioner of Secularism at the Meeting ,is of bad taste, uncalled for, besides unbecoming of the stature of a State Functionary.

Never in the independent history of this country such bloodshed has been committed with impunity and more particularly in the name of dominant Hindu Community. The communal divide he has wedged and violence unleashed against the hapless, poor Muslims in the State of Mahatma Gandhi for the sake of staying in power, has been subjected to wide spread condemnation on a global scale.

Indians of all religions still hung their heads in shame. To cover up such genocide, he has taken the cloak of Hinduism for vindication will never sail in the State of Self-Respect, nurtured by Periyar. We have a very rich tradition of tolerance and compassion and will never fall prey to such inflammatory passions to intoxicate feeble minds.
The democratic form of protest staged on the day of his visit should be appreciated by one and all, who strongly believe in self- respect and time-tested secular values.
